WILMINGTON, DE: David Nicoli on Tuesday joined AstraZeneca as VP of communications and external relations.
Nicoli, whose most recent position was VP of corporate communications for packaged-goods company Altria Group, will oversee 75 employees in internal communications, brand PR, ally developments, corporate communications, and community affairs.
The announcement follows a March decision to separate communications from public policy and government relations, which will be combined with managed markets and overseen by Marion McCourt.
Both McCourt and Nicoli will assume the responsibilities of Alan Milbauer, who is retiring June 30 after 32 years with the drug company.
The decision will streamline the responsibilities of the two positions while responding to a changed political environment, with greater emphasis on managed care.
When Nicoli left Altria last year after being there 12 years he was replaced by Michael Pfeil.
