CHICAGO: Hill & Knowlton said Thursday it has signed a letter of intent to buy Dome Communications, one of the leading consumer agencies in Chicago.
Dome Communications founder and CEO Doug Dome will become president of Dome/Hill & Knowlton.
He will also assume the role of US creative director.
Dome told PRWeek he expects the new agency to surpass Edelman as the premiere consumer marketing PR firm with a "bold, cutting-edge" approach supported by H&K.
He would not disclose the financial terms of the sale.
His firm had been in talks with H&K for four years, Dome said. He had discussed selling to as many as 16 PR firms, investment groups, and others over the past few years.
"It was clear to me, of all the interested parties, that Hill & Knowlton was committed to letting us maintain our creative, boutique approach," Dome said.
When Steve Singerman, H&K's GM in Chicago and head of its US marketing practice, was at Edelman, he was a a competitor of Dome's. H&K hired Singerman away seven months ago.
"It's like Christmas Day for me," Singerman said. "Suddenly, we now have a great consumer group."
