Anthem commences search for agency

INDIANAPOLIS: Anthem, the US' fourth largest publicly traded health insurer, has issued an RFP to a "select group" of PR firms.

INDIANAPOLIS: Anthem, the US' fourth largest publicly traded health insurer, has issued an RFP to a "select group" of PR firms.

Debbie Davis, communications director for physician and hospital relations, declined to discuss the length of the search process or the nature of the account. The company does not currently have a PR agency.

In October, Anthem, a Blue Cross and Blue Shield licensee, announced plans to merge with WellPoint, the US' second largest health insurance company.

The merger has received approval from 10 states, but still requires the go-ahead from California. On Wednesday, a legislative panel there heard concerns from politicians and consumer groups.

Davis said the merger did not facilitate the agency search. "It's just part of our overall corporate communications strategy plan," she said. "We're looking for the best possible agency."

The corporate communications department will lead the search process.
