NEW YORK: Global PR Blog Week 1.0 was formally announced today.

The online event, featuring 28 PR, marketing and business bloggers, will occur during the week of July 12 to 16 at a group blog located at www.globalprblogweek.com. That website will begin hosting content on June 28th.

Trevor Cook, director of the Sydney-based public relations firm Jackson Wells Morris and author of the Corporate Engagement blog, and Constantin Basturea, author of PR meets the WWW blog are spearheading the event. Participants hail from areas such as Canada, Ireland, Sweden, the UK and US.

"The conference idea is really about highlighting PR blogs as an incredibly rich resource for anyone interested in the area... The conference will help bring them into view, it will also encourage others to start a blog or to get in the habit of reading PR blogs," Cook wrote in an email.

"I hope we'll raise the awareness of blogging as a communications tool - for media relations and crisis and internal communications," said Steve Rubel, a participant from the blog MicroPersuasion. "The [practice of] media relations is by no means going away, and companies value it highly. [Blogs] are just a new element."
