LOS ANGELES: Consensus Planning Group recently won an RFP from the Orange Country Transportation Authority (OCTA) to handle communications surrounding plans to increase traffic flow along state route 91.

The one-year contract is valued at $250,000 and marks the agency's first client win in its recently opened Irvine office.

Orange County has seen both a population boom and a significant increase in housing prices in recent years. The result is that people are buying homes in less-expensive inland areas, but commuting to jobs closer to the coast, causing increased traffic along SR91.

Government agencies are now in the first phase of examining ways to alleviate that traffic congestion.

"Some of the ways they are looking at have all kinds of potential controversy associated with them," said CPG president Julie Gertler, explaining that suggestions include widening the road or creating an alternate route through a national park.

CPG is charged will all aspects of communications for the project, from public and governmental affairs to community outreach. It began work on the project this month.
