Stratford, CT: Helicopter manufacturer Sikorsky Aircraft has named Clarence (Bud) Grebey III as VP of communications and marketing.
The newly-created position will have Grebey merging communications and marketing, as well as overseeing Sikorsky's corporate and campaign communications, media relations, customer relations, internal communications and other functions.. Grebey was introduced to the company by an executive recruiter.
Previously, the company had three different groups: the community affairs organization, which had been under the office of the president, corporate communications, and marketing. While those functions are still in place, his goal is to combine the resources. He will oversee a staff of 30.
He said that the company's solid reputation, the challenges of a new industry, and its initiatives, including its bid to provide the next generation of presidential helicopters, drew him to the job.
Grebey most recently led the development and implementation of PR programs at Siemens for the past two and a half years. Grebey said he left Siemens as a result of restructuring.
Siemens' SVP corporate affairs and marketing Jack Bergen, planned to stay at the firm for a long time, which precluded Siemens' need for another top-level manager, said Paula Davis, director of PR.
"It made sense for Bud," Davis said.
Prior to that, he was VP of corporate affairs for Internet retailer Webvan Group. Grebey also served as press secretary and chief of staff to former US Representative Richard L. Ottinger (D-NY) and has worked for the Japanese government.
Sikorsky is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation, a provider of products and services to the aerospace and building systems industries.
