LOS ANGELES: Mary Kay, one of the nation?s largest direct-selling beauty and cosmetics companies, has hired Hill & Knowlton as its AOR.
The account, valued at six-figures annually, was won after a competitive pitch involving mostly boutique firms. H&K has done project work for Mary Kay since last fall, when it helped promote the company?s 40th anniversary.
The account is headed out of H&K?s New York office and is lead by Joan Buyce.
Mary Kay invited 10 firms to participate in the RFP.
The company?s last agency was Fleishman-Hillard. Nancy Seliger, FH?s New York general manager, said the agency stopped working on the account a year ago.
Shannon Summers, Mary Kay?s director of corporate communications, said Fleishman was not asked to pitch because Mary Kay ?wanted to go in a different direction and expand our efforts.?
Summers said H&K was chosen because it?s ?able to give us senior-level involvement, a committed staff with the focus you get with a boutique, but it has the strategic excellence and resources of a big firm.?
