NEW YORK: Peter Himler is leaving Burson-Marsteller for Edelman.
Edelman, the largest independent PR firm, said Tuesday that it has hired Himler as executive vice president and chief media officer. He begins September 13.
Himler has been at Burson for 11 years, most recently as managing director of the strategic and corporate media team and global spokesperson.
Himler said that he was approached by Edelman and was impressed with its offer. Pam Talbot, US president and COO of Edelman, said Himler "has exactly the right background" to head the firm's media department.
At Edelman, Himler will oversee a team of more than 20 media relations specialists. "It was just a terrific opportunity to build a media practice to my specifications," he said.
Asked about the financial terms of his deal, Himler replied only that Edelman CEO Richard Edelman is a "very persuasive fellow."
Burson CEO Chris Komisarjevsky said that his firm has not yet chosen a replacement for Himler.
