Joe Lockhart, a partner at the Glover Park Group and former chief spokesman for the Clinton administration, is one of the new Kerry/Edwards campaign members announced today.
More than a few of the new staff come by way of the Clinton administration.
Lockhart, a media relations and political strategist, will serve as a senior advisor.
In his role with the Clinton administration, Lockhart ran the daily press conferences for White House journalists and briefed the president on press matters. He was also national press secretary for the Clinton/Gore '96 re-election campaign and deputy press secretary for the Dukakis/Bentsen '88 presidential campaign.
Also joining the communications team is Joel Johnson, co-founder and managing director of The Harbour Group, a PR and crisis communications firm. Johnson was named director of rapid response. Johnson also served in the Clinton administration as senior advisor for policy and communications.
Among the other hires, Dr. Susan Rice was named senior advisor for national security affairs; Mel Levine was named policy advisor on Israel and the Middle East, Lori Denham was named Elizabeth Edwards' chief of staff and Karen Finney, also a veteran of the Clinton administration, accepted the position of Elizabeth Edwards' communication director.
