NEW YORK: The legal team for Walt Disney Co. CEO Michael Eisner has hired Howard Rubenstein to aid with communications surrounding the share- holder lawsuit currently being heard in Delaware courts.
Rubenstein confirmed that he'd work on behalf of Eisner personally, though he has done work for Disney in the past.
Although he declined to discuss specifics of any communications strategy, he said that Eisner "has a very strong and decent position that he has done nothing improper and that he adhered to all the basic rules of disclosure."
The high-profile case was filed by Disney shareholders, who contend that the company's board of directors and executives failed to uphold shareholder interests in the hiring and firing of former Disney president Michael Ovitz.
Ovitz held the position for 14 months and walked away with a controversial $140 million severance package.
The trial, which is being streamed live via a webcast as part of a test by Delaware courts to increase public access to trials and gauge how it affects them, began last week. Both Eisner and Ovitz are expected to testify.
