This fact is continued by the assertion from Republicans that the results showed an overwhelming Republican majority supporting their re-elected president, while Democrats read that the results showed their candidate, John Kerry, received more votes than any previous presidential candidate in history. This divide permeates everywhere, even amicably at Edelman, where the two vice chairmen are Michael Deaver, President Ronald Reagan's former chief of staff and a Republican strategist; and Leslie Dach, former communications director of the Dukakis for President Committee who provides strategy to the Democratic Party. Both spoke to separately about the communication successes and failures of each party and where the political arena is heading.
