NEEDHAM, MA: IT media company TechTarget is launching CIO Decisions, a monthly magazine targeted to CIOs and other senior-level IT managers at mid-market companies. Beginning in April, it will be distributed to a controlled circulation of 60,000.
Maryfran Johnson, editor-in-chief of CIO Decisions and former editor-in-chief of Computerworld, said the mid-market is one of the largest and fastest-growing segments when it comes to purchasing IT products. She added that this segment, which comprises about 50,000 firms with $50 million to $2 billion in annual revenue, has previously not had a magazine specifically devoted to it.
"It was a pleasant surprise for me to discover this untapped market," she said. "Nobody has ever really targeted editorial content toward these CIOs at companies that have problems that are just as complex and interesting as larger enterprises'."
Editorial content will "drill down into vertical markets," Johnson said, adding that articles will be supplemented by complementary pieces on the website. The mid-market enterprise's relationship with vendors will also will be a main focus of CIO.
Other features will include Q&As, case studies, and columns written by CIOs in the mid-market space.
"I'll try to not have experts and analysts writing the columns in the magazine, but practitioners themselves," Johnson said.
