MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA: Caroline Phillips-Japic has joined Silicon Graphics as its new director of PR. She replaces Marty Coleman, now director of marketing who oversees analyst relations.
SGI is known for its high-end, high-performance computers, graphics and storage technology, focusing on verticals such as manufacturing, life sciences, energy, government and media.
About a year ago the $913 million company selected Access Communications and Nobleman Communications as its agencies, but has since consolidated the account with Access.
"I really want to improve on some of the things the company has already been doing, such as promoting customer success stories," said Phillips-Japic, who will report to Greg Estes, VP of corporate marketing.
Phillips-Japic, who oversees all external communications, also wants more aggressive media outreach to vertical publications, as well as making CEO Robert Bishop more visible.
"The company is really known for its technology behind Hollywood and the movies," said Phillips-Japic. "But there is so much more to our story, from our work with NASA, BP and Ford, to our technology being a part of hurricane warning systems. We have a great opportunity to communicate this company's vision."
Phillips-Japic has worked at companies including Vitria Technology, Tibco Software, Sun Microsystems, Apple Computer, and Golin Harris.
