SANTA ANA, CA: The PR teams of two ophthalmology companies will be brought under a single message if a planned merger is finalized in the first quarter of 2005.
Advanced Medical Optics, which makes eye surgery instruments and contact lens solution, hopes to become the leader in the vision correction market with the purchase of Visx, which makes the lasers used in LASIK.
"They'll definitely come under our umbrella," said Steve Chesterman, AMO manager of corporate communications, about the Visx PR team. "We'll be working as one company."
For the AMO PR department, that union currently entails "getting up to speed" on Visx products, Chesterman noted.
But he added that the company does not expect to make any personnel changes in the two communications departments.
"That's the beauty of it, the integration is going to be pretty seamless," he said.
He also noted that the company does not have any plans to conduct agency reviews for the integrated company, which will operate under the AMO name.
AMO currently works with Golin Harris's Los Angeles office. Visx is a longstanding client of Dorland Global Health Communications.
Chesterman said media relations around the acquisition were handled in-house.
