NEW YORK: Bite Communications will open an office in New York in January, and has hired Jonathan Gandal to run the office.
As SVP, Gandal will work with existing clients, including Sun Microsystems, Siebel Systems, and Juniper Networks, as well as focusing on business development. The new office will have a few tech start-ups among its new clients.
Gandal joins from Waggener Edstrom's Connecticut office, where he was a VP. Prior to Wag Ed, Gandal was an SVP and GM with Brodeur Worldwide.
"The first thing I recognized is that Bite is one of the hottest agencies in London and on the West Coast," said Gandal, of his decision to join the agency.
"There's a real palatable buzz about the agency. And the team exudes creativity and energy, and we connected on how to approach client service."
Burghardt Tenderich, Bite's North America GM, praised Gandal's deep tech and b-to-b PR experience, including working with clients such as IBM, Research in Motion, and MasterCard.
Establishing an East Coast presence is as important to Bite as its acquisition of Applied Communications' US PR business in the summer of 2003, said Tenderich.
"We have big plans for New York," said Tenderich. "This is very much driven by client demand. Many existing clients wanted to be close to the business and financial media. This is a strategic move."
Bite had been pondering the move for about eight months, but wanted to find the right person first, said Tenderich.
