NEW YORK: As part of its GeNext initiative, Newsweek has teamed with Current for the college news magazine's relaunch this week.
"This is part of an ambitious and long-term initiative to focus on the college marketplace and introduce our brand to them," said Greg Osberg, Newsweek's EVP and worldwide publisher.
Current, produced by college students, shares some design aspects with Newsweek. Each issue will include at least one article written by a Newsweek staffer.
"[We want college students] to become familiar with the way we write, some of our personalities, some of our columnists, and to build up a relationship with that group," Osberg added.
Newsweek also plans to build an online presence for the title, he said, since most college students get news from the internet.
Current, which has been published since 1998 from its Harvard-based office, will be distributed in April, September and December at 21 schools. Its distribution rose from 10,000 to 100,000 since the partnership.
