SEATTLE: Amazon.com has entered into contract negotiations with Hoffman Agency as its tech AOR, according to sources close to the situation.
Amazon confirmed that it was in contract negotiations for the tech account but declined to confirm or deny that it was Hoffman.
"We're in contract negotiations with one technology [agency] and in the midst of the shortlist review for the product PR," said Kathy Savitt, VP of strategic communications.
Lou Hoffman, president of the San Jose-based agency, could not be reached by press time.
The source said that Amazon's brief covered two areas: its instant website, which helps small businesses create a quality site similar to Amazon's, and its A9 search engine, which debuted on September 15.
Hoffman was selected from an initial pool of eight firms, while the product PR shortlist came from 10 original applicants.
Fleishman-Hillard previously handled the company's tech account and declined to say whether it repitched.
Amazon said last month that the company was looking for one to three agencies to handle product and tech PR.
