CHICAGO: Beginning next week, Bacon's Information will offer all clients the opportunity to track relevant information from news blogs through MediaSource's monitoring module.

Ann Ertsas, director of marketing and PR for Bacon's, said the new service was inspired by repeated customer requests. However, only selected blogs will be included in the offering.

Blogs that are chatroom-like in their content and form will not be monitored. "That's not what we're looking for," Ertsas said.

Bacon's is looking at "quality, not quantity" and will therefore only monitor reputable, professional news blogs written by active journalists, she said. The most popular subjects for the blogs that will be monitored are business, healthcare, and tech.

Some of the blogs monitored include Wonkette, DaveBarry. com, and the Silicon Valley Watcher.

Bacon's has been exploring the notion of monitoring the blogosphere since the fourth quarter of 2003. MediaSource Premium members have been able to access blogs through the research module since last year.
