Zehnder becomes corporate comms EVP with Conseco

CHICAGO: Once-troubled insurance company Conseco has hired Tony Zehnder as its new EVP of corporate communications.

CHICAGO: Once-troubled insurance company Conseco has hired Tony Zehnder as its new EVP of corporate communications.

Zehnder is creating a new communications department at Conseco, pulling together PR people who have worked for the company's various business units in the past.

"There is not a structured department yet," he said. "The issue is to unify the structure."

Conseco emerged from bankruptcy in September 2003.

Zehnder will report directly to CEO Bill Kirsch, with both working out of the company's Chicago executive offices. Conseco maintains its headquarters in Carmel, IN.

Conseco's various business units have worked with PR firms in the past, but there is no company AOR. Zehnder said it is too early for him to determine if the company will hire an AOR or additional PR staffers.

Zehnder joined the company in December from Lehman Brothers in New York, where he was an MD and head of global corporate communications. He also has served as executive director and head of corporate communications in the Americas for UBS AG/UBS Warburg.
