SAN JOSE, CA: Enterprise software firm BEA Systems has named Dick O'Donnell its VP of corporate marketing.
BEA had a rough year in 2004 because of a string of executive departures; the overall sluggishness of the enterprise-software market; and increased competition from IBM, Oracle, and Microsoft.
But the company is much more focused now, O'Donnell said, and he wants to be more aggressive in defining its message.
He pointed to a December 7 InfoWorld article that referred to BEA as "an industry leader ready to move forward."
O'Donnell said he wanted to move past the company's recent turmoil to focus on its innovation, as well as on the vision of the new leadership team.
Before joining BEA, O'Donnell was VP of corporate marketing at Tibco Software. He has also worked at Borland Software and Burson-Marsteller.
