REDWOOD SHORES, CA: Jeff Lettes has joined Oracle as corporate communications VP, replacing Jim Finn, who left early this month.

Lettes joins Oracle from Applied Materials, where he was director of worldwide media relations. David Miller, senior manager of worldwide media relations at Applied, will handle Lettes' responsibilities.

Lettes will oversee global PR, including corporate communications, product PR, employee communications, and industry analyst relations. Like Finn, Lettes will report to Oracle president Charles Phillips.

Lettes joins a little more than a week before the company was scheduled to announce layoffs from its tumultuous, but ultimately successful, 18-month hostile takeover bid of rival People- Soft. Oracle will launch the combined company tomorrow.

Lettes was with Applied Materials for seven years. Before that, he held posts with Informix, Neale-May & Partners, Miller-Shandwick, and Burson-Marsteller. He also has run his own firm, Jeff Lettes Associates.
