NEW YORK: Healthcare specialty firm Chandler Chicco Agency (CCA) has entered into a joint venture with a Korean PR shop in its first step toward creating a presence in several key Asian markets.

CCA will share clients, staff, and resources with Seoul-based Macoll, the country's largest independent healthcare firm, said principal Gianfranco Chicco.

The union has already netted four clients, two each in the US and UK. Chicco wouldn't name them, but said the work involves product and reputation PR.

He added that the firm plans more ventures with agencies in Beijing, Shanghai, Tokyo, Taiwan, and Sydney, possibly during the first half of this year.

Asia is often considered to be a test market for product launches, said principal Bob Chandler. But he cited SARS and trade agreements among China, Korea, and Japan as emerging public policy issues that will require agencies to have a physical presence there.

Conversely, Chicco noted that Korean drug firms are seeking to draw resources from the US. He noted that Korea has "some of the most sophisticated healthcare in [the Asian] market."
