IRVINE, CA: John Spelich is leaving the number-two PR job at The Walt Disney Co. to take the top PR job at Gateway.
Spelich will start next Monday as corporate communications VP. His arrival is a homecoming of sorts, as Spelich was director of corporate communications at Gateway for two years before joining Disney. He has been with Disney for just under three years, most recently as VP of corporate communications.
Before Gateway, Spelich worked for Ford Motor and as a journalist.
Spelich replaces Bob Sherbin, who left Gateway in October to join rival Hewlett-Packard as VP of corporate media relations. Spelich will report to Cathy Stauffer, SVP of marketing.
Gateway shook up its management team after its acquisition of eMachines early last year. Many analysts have credited that shake-up with helping the company regain its focus, cut costs, and post profits instead of losses.
