BEAVERTON, OR: Alan Marks, VP of corporate communications at The Gap, has left the company to take a new position with sports apparel giant Nike.
The specifics of the new position are still unclear, but Marks will report to director of brand communications Nigel Powell. Neither Marks nor Powell were available for comment.
Anne Gust, Gap's chief administrative officer, will assume Marks' responsibilities while the company decides how to replace him, according to Stacy MacLean, director of media relations.
Marks joined the San Francisco-based retailer in 1999 as senior director of corporate communications and was promoted to VP three months later. Marks formerly worked for Avon.
The Gap, which also overseas the Banana Republic and Old Navy brands, will unveil its fourth brand later this year. The unnamed stores will target women over age 35, and will initially have 10 outlets.
Nike made news late last year when co-founder Philip Knight stepped down as the company's first and only CEO, but remained as board chairman. William Perez took over as president and CEO.
