LOS ANGELES: The Los Angeles Dodgers have hired Sitrick & Co. to provide "strategic communications support," said the head of the firm's entertainment division, Allan Mayer.
"The Dodgers obviously have a large organization in the public spotlight," said Mayer.
"They have relatively new ownership, and there have been a series of top-level changes, [so] there is a desire to make sure they are maximizing all their resources."
Mayer said the firm began working for the team at the end of last month and has an open-ended agreement. The work will include a communications audit, and the firm will report directly to team owners Jamie and Frank McCourt, who purchased the team before the 2004 season.
He added that day-to-day PR functions would continue to be handled in-house.
"We're not acting as spokespeople. We are strategic consultants," he said. "We are just going to be the outside eyes that can sometimes see things that insiders don't."
Although Sitrick & Co. is best known for its crisis work, Mayer added that the agency also does more mainstream communications functions and that the current work being done for the Dodgers is not an out-of-the-ordinary assignment.
"We've always had a very substantial practice in strategic counsel and communications consulting, and we're very often brought in for this," Mayer explained.
