BOSTON, MA: Cone has promoted Jens Bang as CEO and president, as founder Carol Cone moves to chairman after 25 years at the helm.
As chairman, Cone will stay actively involved with the agency, focusing much of her energy on cause branding and corporate social responsibility practices, disciplines that she helped pioneer.
Bang has been with the firm for eight years, serving as president and COO for the past six. He joined as EVP and chief marketing officer in 1997, after serving in high-level marketing positions at Timberland and Reebok.
Bang will assume more responsibility for the agency overall and spend more time externally with clients. He said the agency would continue to build upon its core functions of brand marketing and corporate responsibility.
"In today's environment where transparency is needed [for companies] to be successful, we're well-positioned to help them build trusting relationships with key stakeholders," Bang said.
Cone said that she and Bang have known each other for 28 years and helped each other get accounts and positions through their relationship. She called the management change a natural evolution.
"Our clients are thrilled that more of our senior [executives] will be engaged in their business," Cone said.
Bang will be responsible for client relationship management and programming, human resources, agency marketing, finance, and overall operations.
Cone said that the agency did not have any current plans to find a new COO.
Existing senior management would pitch in on operational duties that Bang previously handled as COO.
Cone is part of the Omnicom Group. Clients include Adobe Systems, the American Heart Association, ConAgra Foods, and Starbucks.
