AVON, CT: Bradley International Airport and the Connecticut Department of Transportation have picked Mintz & Hoke Communications Group to provide communications and advertising strategy for the airport.
About half of the $400,000 budget will be spent on public relations, according to Tom Bradley, VP and director of PR. The rest will be spent on advertising and building out the airport's website. Mintz & Hoke beat out three other firms for the business.
Bradley, who will lead a team of eight people, said the agency is tasked with reaching out to a wide swath of the public.
"The biggest issue is that many of the people in Connecticut, including opinion leaders, don't understand the role an airport plays in economic development," Bradley said. He added that airlines look at whether a state values its airport and whether the local businesses are committed to serving the airport's customers before running their routes through that area.
To that end, Mintz & Hoke will target local business and citizens through the state media, discussing the economic benefits of a strong airport.
The other major media relations undertaking will be in attracting airlines through trade magazines, and business and leisure travelers through regional magazines and travel sections in dailies.
