Harris parts ways with Bally to take VP job at Sara Lee

CHICAGO: Jon Harris, VP of business development and communications at Bally Total Fitness, is taking on a new VP of media development and communications role with a division of Sara Lee.

CHICAGO: Jon Harris, VP of business development and communications at Bally Total Fitness, is taking on a new VP of media development and communications role with a division of Sara Lee.

Harris will oversee communications efforts for Sara Lee's food and beverage products, as well as for its food-service operations.

The baked-goods company is in the process of moving both its bakery and foods divisions to Chicago, where PR is being consolidated.

Harris expects to be hiring PR staffers, but said it's too early to discuss the possibility of hiring agencies.

"This is a great opportunity because I have a chance to work with my mentors and friends to help maximize Sara Lee's brand potential," said Harris.

Harris' duties at Bally will be divided temporarily between Mark Ryle, head of business development, and Matt Messinger, senior director of communications. Messinger will serve as acting PR director.
