SANTA CRUZ, CA: Clay Hausmann, previously MD of Ogilvy PR's San Francisco and Los Angeles offices, has joined headset maker Plantronics as VP of corporate communications.
The company develops headsets for both consumers and businesses, used for everything from call centers to video games.
This is a new position for the $533 million company.
The company has been known as a call-center for most of its 43-year history, said Hausmann. But with the growth in popularity of mobile and wireless devices, and more legislation requiring drivers to use headsets for their cell phones, Plantronics faces an opportunity to reposition and rebrand itself.
"There is so much substance to this company, but they have a very humble culture," said Hausmann. "They really haven't talked about themselves that much. They've really only been focused on the call-center market."
Raising brand awareness, which Hausmann said is low, among consumers and the corporate world will be one of his first endeavors.
Hausmann was previously MD of Ogilvy PR's San Francisco and Los Angeles offices. He left Ogilvy in August.
Hausmann has also worked at Connors Communications, Porter Novelli, and Edelman.
Plantronics renewed its relationship with Porter Novelli as its lead corporate US agency in June 2004.
