WASHINGTON: Melissa Skolfield has left her post at the office of House minority leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to join the Brookings Institution as VP and director of communications.
Brookings President Strobe Talbot said that while Skolfield would work on public events, Op-Ed pieces, and traditional press outreach, he also expected her to develop an online communications strategy, including a new website.
Skolfield served as communications counsel for Pelosi since March 2003. Prior to joining Pelosi's staff, Skolfield served as an SVP and head of the healthcare practice at GolinHarris. She also worked at the Department of Health and Human Services from 1993 - 2001, ascending to the position of assistant secretary of public affairs. She has also worked as a press secretary for two Democratic congressmen.
It is unclear who will fill Skolfield's position in the Pelosi office.
