MIAMI: Burson-Marsteller has hired a new head for its US Hispanic Practice.

Al Quintana, most recently the VP of marketing communications for the Telefonica SA subsidiary in the US, will be based in Miami. He will report to Santiago Hinojosa, CEO of Burson-Marsteller Latin America.

Quintana called the move an ?exciting opportunity? to provide strategic counsel to a wide variety of companies.

?The 2000 US Census validated what many of us already knew about the dynamic growth in the US Hispanic market,? he said. ?Hispanic consumers play a critical role in our country?s economic engine and can not be ignored by any company looking to grow its business in the United States.?

Quintana succeeds Jorge Ortega, who left Burson earlier this year to take the role of president at The Jeffrey Group, which recently announced the formation of a US Hispanic practice.
