SANTA CLARA, CA: Siobhan MacDermott has joined security software company McAfee as VP of worldwide corporate communications. She replaces Jennifer Keavney, who left the company after eight years to take time off.

MacDermott joins the company at a time of growing competition in the IT security market, one of the few markets not hit by the tech downturn. McAfee faces competition from larger rivals such as Microsoft and Symantec, as well as smaller companies that specialize in internet security.

She was formerly SVP of global marketing and communications for Betrusted, now known as Cybertrust.

MacDermott plans to focus on driving global PR, both enhancing the company?s image and presence globally, as well as ensuring that the company speaks with a concise and consistent message globally, she said.

?Now is an important time for us to focus globally, and talk about what our core business is, which is security,? said MacDermott, who will report to SVP of corporate marketing Larry McIntosh.
