LOS ANGELES: The Public Relations Coalition plans to conduct an annual survey of diversity in PR as part of a stepped-up effort to target the issue.

The survey will focus on corporate communications officers and agency CEOs to track progress on how diversity initiatives in such areas as recruiting and mentoring impact the industry.

"A lot of organizations have done these studies," said James Murphy, global managing director of marketing and communications for Accenture and chairman of the coalition, "but this is meant to be one broad-based study across the industry.

"It was a decision at the summit meeting that we need some way to measure progress in this space," he added.

The coalition is an alliance of 23 organizations, including the Arthur W. Page Society and the Council of Public Relations Firms.
