CHICAGO: Judith Muhlberg, who was formerly head of communications at Boeing, will become SVP, corporate communications, for Sprint Nextel when the merged company starts doing business in the third quarter.
Muhlberg most recently has been working with Gagen MacDonald, a Chicago agency that specializes in employee relations and management change.
She was SVP, corporate communications, at Boeing from 1999 until 2003. She worked at Ford from 1977 to 1999 and at one point was considered a possible candidate for the top communications post there.
Tom Murphy, currently VP of corporate communications and brand management for Sprint, will become VP for sponsorships, said Scott Stoffel, Sprint's manager for financial communications and national media relations. Stoffel could not comment on the fate of Elizabeth Brooks, who heads Nextel PR.
Neither Nextel nor Muhlberg returned calls for comment.
Muhlberg will report to Gary Forsee, Sprint's current CEO and chairman, who will become CEO and president of the new company, Stoffel said.
Sprint and Nextel announced their merger late in 2004 and are awaiting final approvals.
