THOUSAND OAKS, CA: Amgen has hired Phyllis Piano, former VP of corporate affairs and communications at Raytheon, to fill its top PR post, according to an internal e-mail circulating within the company.
Piano replaces Marie Kennedy, who left Amgen (PRWeek, August 1). Piano is expected to start at the biotechnology giant at the end of the month.
At Raytheon, an aerospace and defense company, Piano led a communications team of 100. She left the company, a major defense contractor, at the end of last year after a six-year tenure.
She had previously spent 17 years at General Electric, in both corporate communications roles, as well as serving as head of PR for GE Medical Systems.
Mary Klem, Amgen's associate director of corporate PR, declined to comment on the post, saying an announcement would be made in a few weeks.
Kennedy held one of the top communications positions at Amgen, reporting to the EVP of finance, strategy, and communications.
Separately, Piano will also become chairwoman of the Public Relations Seminar in the fall, according to the e-mail.
