WASHINGTON: Quinn Gillespie Associates (QGA) is working with the White House on building a coalition among business leaders and lawmakers to advance an immigration reform package.
The group, Americans for Border and Economic Security, is led by former US Reps. Cal Dooley (D-CA) and Dick Armey (R-TX) as well as Robert de Posada, president of The Latino Coalition.
Some Republicans and anti-immigration groups are expected to fight the initiative, arguing that undocumented workers pose a security threat and take jobs that could be filled by US citizens.
?Right now, you hear a lot of talk about fences [on the US/Mexico border],? said Terry Holt, senior media strategist at QGA. ?But you don?t hear that much talk about what the economy needs to keep growing and to keep providing a high quality of life for America and its workers.?
QGA will seek to expand awareness of the coalition?s position through earned and paid media as well as grassroots communications.
One of the goals of the reforms will be to encourage legality in immigration and give employers and immigration officials the resources to help immigrants can come here legally to work and provide benefits to the US economy.
