CARY, NC: Tyler Gronbach has left Qwest Communications for a VP of corporate communications post with R.H. Donnelley, the Yellow Pages and online local search company.
The title, identical to the one he held at Qwest, is a new one at Donnelley.
The $603 million company publishes Sprint-branded Yellow Pages in 18 states. It purchased the Illinois and Indiana directory business from SBC Communications in 2004.
With its acquisition of Yellow and White Pages publisher Dex Media expected to close early next year, Donnelley will become one of the largest directory publishers in the country, and a nearly $3 billion company.
Because of that anticipated growth, the company elevated the communications role to better build brand awareness.
"I also want to focus on internal communications," said Gronbach, who will report to George Bednarz, VP of corporate planning and IT.
With the acquisition of Dex Media, Donnelley will jump from 2,000 employees to more than 4,500.
At Qwest, communications will continue to be run by Joan Walker, EVP of corporate communications, although the company is looking to replace Gronbach.
