SAN FRANCISCO: The San Francisco 49ers have hired Lisa Lang as the team's VP of communications, a new position.
Lang is one of two key communications hires for the NFL team this year. In July, Aaron Salkin joined as PR director, replacing Kirk Reynolds, who resigned just before media training tapes he made containing racy images and racial humor surfaced in the media.
The tapes generated national attention and became a major embarrassment for the 49ers, who worked aggressively to denounce them as "reprehensible and tasteless."
Salkin, who joined from the Atlanta Falcons, will report to Lang. She could not be reached for comment.
Lang reports to team owner John York and will lead public affairs, community outreach, and philanthropic initiatives.
Lang was previously with software company Intuit, where she was VP of corporate and marketing communications. She also has worked for Pacific Bell (now SBC Communications) and Ms. magazine.
