NEW YORK: Keeping in line with an ongoing business strategy, PR Newswire has conducted a ?strategic alignment? of its US sales force, resulting in layoffs of several employees.

"We've done an evaluation of our market strategy and have made some changes in the way we are organized on the sales side," said Dave Armon, COO of PRN.

"It's just good business practice not to be static." Industry estimates that the layoffs affected 35% of the sales force are too high, Armon said, but he declined to comment on the exact number of employees affected by the recent layoffs.

He added that not all of those positions have been permanently eliminated. PRN is currently interviewing for senior-level positions and hopes to fill them by the end of the year. Armon said the realignment of the sales division is unrelated to the financial performance of the company.

"We've had a very good year, he said. "The business is growing."
