NEW YORK: Burson-Marsteller has hired Chris O'Neill as chairman of US brand marketing. He will handle brand communications strategies for clients, reporting to Ken Rietz, US CEO and worldwide vice chairman.

O'Neill is succeeding Linda Recupero, who left the firm last summer. He was previously director of worldwide communications and marketing for Inter- public Group's Octagon Worldwide. Prior to Octagon, he was VP of global marketing communications for MasterCard International, where he worked on the "Priceless" ad campaign.

Rietz said O'Neill's experience in "building memorable campaigns" will enhance Burson's "current offering to clients and enable us to build new relationships in a broad array of industries."

Burson's brand communications practice is well positioned to offer clients a "more comprehensive approach to managing brand awareness," O'Neill said.
