LONDON: In anticipation of a European Commission investigation into
its proposed mega-merger with Sprint, MCI WorldCom is overhauling its
pan-European PR operations.
The company is reviewing PR coordination, media relations and public
affairs and will soon appoint a single agency to manage these functions
across 13 European countries.
Pitches for the business were held last Tuesday in London, MCI WorldCom
director of corporate communications Angela Barker confirmed. While she
declined to identify the agencies that took part, sources close to
negotiations said that APCO (the incumbent), Brodeur Worldwide,
Countrywide Porter Novelli and Weber Group/Europe are all in the
mix.
Luther Pendragon, which works with MCI WorldCom in the UK, advises the
company on other pan-European issues, including regulation.
