RALEIGH, NC: Richard French & Associates formally threw its hat
into the burgeoning North Carolina hi-tech ring last week, opening the
doors on a new technology practice.
The group will be led by VP Terrell Mayton, who formerly served as VP of
marketing for Time Warner Cable. While RF&A has been handling some tech
business since its birth three years ago, president and CEO Rick French
said he had hesitated to devote a specific unit to hi-tech largely
because he hadn’t found the right person to lead the practice.
’Terrell is a very heavy hitter in the telecom world,’ he said. ’He
The two worked together between 1992 and 1998, when Mayton was at Time
Warner and French was SVP and head of PR at Rockett, Burkhead & Winslow,
which represented Time Warner. Most recently, Mayton was VP of
operations and marketing at holding company Rifkin & Associates.
Just as some hi-tech shops focus on hardware or software, French said
that Mayton’s telecom experience will play a big role in shaping the new
practice. The firm is already chasing several potential telecom clients,
and French hopes to have a dozen hi-tech accounts on board by the end of
the year. Currently on RF&A’s roster are MDEverywhere, which develops
mobile Internet-based automation tools for physicians, and Thrucomm,
which makes products to speed up ATM transactions.
The practice currently boasts six employees, but French expects to
increase this to upwards of a dozen within the next 90 days. While there
haven’t been any hi-tech revenue projections set for 2000, French said
that he’d be disappointed if the practice had less than dollars 1
million in fee billings.
