LOS ANGELES: At a time when state attorneys general are grappling

with a host of issues that impact e-commerce, the MWW Group has taken a

big step to ensure that it will be prepared to react to PR issues with

legal implications.

The agency brought in former Indiana attorney general Jeff Modisett last

week as a senior counselor in its Los Angeles office. Modisett, who

recently resigned his elected AG post before his term was due to expire,

will have a lot on his plate. He is also VP and chief counsel at

TechNet, an Internet trade association representing the hi-tech and

biotech communities, and deputy CEO and general counsel for the

Democratic National Convention.

Modisett is looking forward to working on MWW’s anti-tobacco programs

(the agency is involved in campaigns in Oklahoma, New Jersey, Nebraska

and Georgia) and believes PR should play an important role in combating

the tobacco industry’s advertising. ’It takes a real sophistication

about who the target audience is and what they will listen to,’ he

explained.

’Too many anti-tobacco messages have fallen on deaf ears.’
