NEW YORK: Vowing to push the traditional magazine business back

into the media spotlight, Diane Stefani has been elected chairman of the

Magazine Publishers of America’s communications committee.

Stefani, a former New York Post entertainment editor who is currently

director of communications for Playboy Enterprises, was voted in as

chairman earlier this month. The 25-strong MPA communications committee

is comprised of senior PR pros in magazine publishing.

Stefani’s mission is to put forward a more rounded image of the magazine

industry. ’The publishing industry gets a bad rap in the media,’ Stefani

explained. ’It’s been getting swamped by stories about dot-coms. There

are a lot of tough issues for us to tackle.’

Before becoming a director at Playboy in 1994, she worked at Universal

Pictures, where she handled the publicity for Schindler’s List, Reality

Bites and The Paper.
