Actor Chuck Connors played the TV character from 1958 to 1963 as a stoic

figure who rarely sought out the spotlight. Now a Florida man plans to

use PR to fetch dollars 1 million for the rifle used in the series and

has already hired Transmedia Public Relations to publicize his sale of

the antique gun.

Jeffery Gesten, who deals in collectibles through his Web site,

Shop4Rock.com, bought the rifle for dollars 12,000 at an auction of

Connors items. Gesten was once a PR man, so he decided that taking on an

agency would help him reach more potential buyers - not to mention get

more money for the rifle (a real 1892 Winchester .44 caliber, not a

stage prop).

Tom Madden, the former NBC exec who leads Transmedia, has already

secured an interview with CBS MarketWatch and is planning to pitch the

major TV entertainment shows. Given that he’s receiving a flat fee plus

a percentage of the sale price, Madden certainly has plenty of

incentive.

Regardless of whether the sale pans out, Gesten already has another hot

item under his belt: the gold record plaque for Dean Martin’s ’Everybody

Loves Somebody Sometimes.’
