NEW YORK: Primedia’s top-ranking PR executive is leaving the
company to launch an Internet start-up.
Longtime VP of corporate communications David Adler, who had been with
the company for six years, has departed to work for Bizbash.com, a site
supported by substantial VC funding and aimed in part at the PR
’I am ultimately an entrepreneur,’ said Adler, who has worked in PR at
Macmillan Publishers and Cone. ’This move is something I have been
thinking of for some time.’
Warren Bimblick, VP of investor relations at Primedia, is stepping into
Adler’s role until a replacement can be found. Primedia CEO Tom Rogers
and Bimblick are interviewing candidates this week.
’We are one of the best-kept secrets in the world,’ Bimblick said. ’We
will be working hard on the communications front to make sure the world
knows what we are doing. We need a full-court press.’
Bimblick said he does not see Adler’s departure as affecting the firm’s
relationships with its PR agencies (Sloane & Company for corporate work
and GA Kraut & Company for IR).
Adler predicted heightened PR activity at Primedia, which invested
dollars 57 million in online magazines in 1999. ’Tom Rogers is a great
believer in PR as a tool,’ he said. Adler added that he will also be
stepping down from his role as chairman of the Magazine Publishers of
America’s communications committee.
