The Internet marketing firm has hired Fleishman-Hillard and Mitchell

Simmons as VP of PR. However, Simmons, who joined the company two weeks

ago, denied that the company’s moves were made in response to uproar

over the industry’s practice of collecting information on people’s Web

habits.

’That is not the reason I was brought on board,’ Simmons insisted. ’24/7

Media is growing and decided it was time to take control of its

presence.

PR is an increasingly important marketing tool.’

Fleishman takes over from incumbent Connors Communications. The

year-long account, worth between dollars 500,000 and dollars 750,000,

will be split between New York and the west coast. Fleishman SVP and

partner Jamie Ludowitz attributed the win in part to the firm’s prior

experience with Web advertising firm Sabela Media, which was recently

acquired by 24/7.

Simmons joins 24/7 from DL Blackman & Company, which represents Web

sites Africana.com and PBS. Previously, he had worked for fashion and

lifestyle agencies.
