California Department of Transportation chief deputy director Andrew

Poat has signed on as VP for the San Diego public affairs practice.

Poat, a longtime veteran of Republican Party politics, fills the slot

most recently occupied by departed partner Alan Ziegaus (PRWeek, Feb.

28).

At SZ&M’s LA branch, Cathy Ann Connelly has downshifted from GM to a

senior counselor post, replaced by former assistant GM Jack

Brumfield.

Bob Morales, who joined the firm in October, has been upped to

SVP/assistant GM.

It doesn’t seem like SZ&M would have much need to tinker - at least on

the political campaign front. The agency claims that its political

consulting division, Campaign Strategies, was behind 13 winning ’Super

Tuesday’ initiatives in California.
