CHICAGO: The Options Industry Council has named Pam Tvrdy director of PR, a newly created position. ST. LOUIS: Fleishman-Hillard co-founder Robert E. Hillard, one of the

profession’s true pioneers, died last Tuesday at the age of 82. He

founded the agency in 1946 with Alfred Fleishman and ran it until 1974,

when John Graham assumed the management reins. Following his retirement

in 1982, he remained active in preserving the Fleishman culture, writing

a regular column for the agency’s employee newsletter.





NEW YORK: The MWW Group has hired Michelle Beilsmith as VP of

e-commerce. Beilsmith joins the agency from Media Metrix, where she was

senior manager of marketing and PR. Before that, she headed PR for

Atlanta-based RelevantKnowledge, which was acquired by Media Metrix in

1998. Prominent MWW e-commerce clients include Mercata.com,

Netgrocer.com and eDigital.





BLOOMFIELD HILLS, MI: General Motors has enlisted G-2 Communications to

handle PR for its motor sports and heritage activities. G-2 is headed by

Rex Greenslade, a one-time British auto writer and former Ford PR pro

who set up his own agency in 1989.





SEATTLE: The Seattle Gay Culture and Senior Housing Project is teaming

with Edelman to build brand awareness for a dollars 10 million

fund-raising effort launched last year. Edelman is working on a pro bono

basis.





SAN DIEGO: San Diego State University has named Jack Beresford as its

director of marketing and communications. Working alongside associate VP

of marketing and communications, Beresford will manage the school’s

media relations program and marketing strategy.

CHICAGO: KemperLesnik Communications has been tapped to implement PR,

marketing and public affairs strategies around a new travel Web site

jointly developed by Continental, Delta, Northwest and United Airlines.

The site is scheduled to launch later this year.





NEW YORK: Edelman has named Donald Hyman SVP of its corporate healthcare

group. Hyman was most recently senior managing director of Hill &

Knowlton’s health practice group. He will be based in Edelman’s New York

office and report to EVP Fern Lazar.
