In today’s tight PR job market, agencies are trying everything from

massages to gourmet meals to keep employees happy while at work. But

Metzger Associates has a different approach to appeasing its staffers:

getting them out of the office.

The firm recently started a ’Live Long and Prosper’ benefits package

that will pay each of its 30 employees as much as dollars 2,700 per year

to join health clubs, take vacations and attend professional seminars.

Included in this is up to dollars 500 in ’outdoor living’ benefits,

money employees can use for ski passes, sailing or fly fishing lessons.

Another dollars 600 is earmarked for relaxation, which covers vacation

airfares and leisure pursuits such as guitar lessons.

’Our benefits are to get you to get out,’ said Metzger VP James

Clark.

Out of the office, that is, not out of the company - Metzger has a 94%

employee retention rate and wants to keep it that way. The firm is also

banking that the new benefits will make it easier to recruit new

employees, whether or not they arrive with fly fishing lures.
